World Impact is a Christian missions organization committed to facilitating church-planting movements by evangelizing, equipping, and empowering the unchurched urban poor. They have been ministering in the cities of America and beyond for 40 years.
In 1969, Dr. Keith Phillips, then a college student, went into Watts housing projects in LA and met some kids. He will tell you about the day he went and his heart never left the city. He made a promise with the kids that if they told him about the city then he would tell them about Jesus. He started Bible clubs which grew and grew, so he enlisted the help of Biola Christian college and armed with 300+ volunteers, they flooded Watts with Bible clubs.
Most of the initial thrust of World Impact was to children. Soon, career missionaries moved into the inner city to make disciples and expanded their outreach to teenagers and adults and in 1971 World Impact was incorporated. Over the last 40 years they have expanded to 10 cities, 4 camps and 3 schools. In 1995, they began The Urban Ministry Institute and today they are more dedicated than ever to evangelizing, equipping and empowering indigenous leaders to plant churches that plant churches.
Today World Impact is committed to 4 key areas:
Planting Healthy Urban Chruches
Developing missional partnerships
Resourcing Urban leaders
Demonstrating compassion and Justice
